About Me

Anyone that knows me will be aware that I, at some stage, planned to sail across the Atlantic, what they will not have been aware of is that I have also thought about rowing across. When I decided that I would try to raise money for Help for Heroes, I came to the conclusion that rowing would hopefully raise more cash, let’s face it, quite a few people have sailed across, so no big deal really!
The concept of the row was born. Being an ex Royal Marine, (hence the website name) Royal is a euphemism used amongst the Navy/Army and RAF when referring to a RM, as is Jack for Navy, there are numerous other words and sayings they use to describe us but none that I could possibly print here! When I first put the idea of the row to friends they all said I was barking mad – however they eventually accepted that once I’d made up my mind there was no point trying to talk me out of it, apparently it (I’ve been informed) has something to do with a trait of mine!
I have always been of the adventurous type, participating in sports such as diving and parachuting, I’ve also sailed and in the last few years learnt how to fly microlights. One my all time favourite things though was abseiling – down a cliff face is good but for the best adrenalin rush it has to be out of a helicopter, we used to have a competition as to who could brake at the last minute (before hitting the ground) the longer you left the brake off the faster you went. The loser, as well as being slightly bruised would have to get the beers in that evening. It’s one of the many things I missed when I left the Marines.
So there you are, I can’t think of much else to say about myself, I’ll have to dig deep on this one (no pain no gain) as they say, I just ask that you can do the same and donate to help our injured servicemen and women.
Feel free to email me for any info/questions you may have or if you can help my row in anyway. Please see the contacts page for details.
